Qualifying my Qualifications to Teach Others
What is a Wiki?
* A wiki
([‘wɪ.ki’] <WICK-ee> or [‘wi’.ki’] <WEE-kee>) is a type of
website that allows the visitors themselves to easily add, remove and otherwise
edit and change some available content, sometimes without the need for
registration. This ease of interaction and operation makes a wiki an effective
tool for collaborative authoring.
My interests in exploring wikis -- "It is just as good to receive as to give"
- A developmental taxonomy for using wikis
Level 1 - Acquiring content (getting)
Level 2 - Critiquing content (giving)
Level 3 - Creating content (getting and giving)
Wiki-Supported Learning: Possibilities and Limitations
- Easy to get to and use
- Open-source software (low to no $)
- Specific levels of access (RWED)
- Expansion of learning beyond time and room
- Shifts ownership of learning to students
- Shifting away from a give-only rut
- Can content become too dynamic
- Wiki future uncertain . . .
Some wiki sites to explore:
Jotspot.com
PBwiki.com
wetpaint.com
wikia.com
Twiki.org
my wiki is at buchanan.jot.com
